Elle on the radio?

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

So, if all goes according to plan, I’ll be appearing on Pirate Cat Radio this Friday (accompanied by Jeanne, who can help me out when I collapse under shyness like a star going nova and cannot form coherent words). I’m technically being featured because of “Ellezilla”, the all new minicomic I debuted at APE, so I suspect I’ll be talking a lot about Japan. Or monsters.

The program is from 4-6 PST and we’ll be on earlier in the show (there will also be musical guests and a snarky essayist, among others!). Since it is pirate radio it’s only on a local frequency, but you can tune in from the web.

So, yeah. Check that out. If you’ve ever wanted to hear me make awkward silence, should be exciting.

Upcoming Event! (well, June)

Monday, March 16th, 2009

It’s official on their website, so it can now be official on my website: I will be attending the Charles M. Schulz museum in Santa Rosa as a cartoonist-in-residence on Saturday, June 13th.

I’m such a little tiny guppy in this field (heck, even in the field of online diary comics I’m still a total newbie) so it’s a great honor to be invited. This is my first time doing this sort of thing so I’m super nervous! Wish me luck! And hey, if you’re local, swing on by! :D

Upcoming Appearance

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Wow, June happened fast!

This is a reminder that I will be having my cartoonist-in-residence event at the Charles M. Schulz  Museum in Santa Rosa on Saturday, June 13th, from 1-3pm. I will be a living exhibit, which means I’ll sit there drwing and people can come up and ask me questions. Great fun all around!

I wasn’t able to pull together the new material I was planning on (fluke hand accident that ate April and May is to blame for that) but I will have copies of Ellezilla, a minicomic that compiles all my out of print short stories, The Frog Prince, and the freshly released Erstwhile 01: Short Tales! It’s got three short fairy tales with different artists, all written by Gina of Strawberry Comics (mine is “the bird, the mouse, & the sausage”).

I’ll also be tabling at APE again this October, but more on that later.

Exciting!

I’ve returned successfully from my cartoonist in residency for the Schulz Museum. I got fairly nervous but I had a great time! Everyone was very nice to such an up-and-coming (aka: newbie) as myself and I felt really proud to be asked to attend.

I did a small demonstration while I was up where I took a rough sketch I had drawn on the busride up and inked/started to color it. I’m not done yet, but here’s how far I got in two hours:

In hindsight, I regret not taking a photo of the sketch so you could see the comparison. If there’s interest, I might try demonstrating something like this at home in front of the webcam? We’ll see.

Need to go back there to explore more, it’s a wonderful museum. I had chills just looking through the upstairs section with Schulz’s old posessions and his workstation. You could see his actual drafting table, his materials… there’s something powerful about realizing that someone great and big and talented uses the same type of markers as you.

But yes, good times all around!

SF Zinefest here I come!

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Just a reminder to all and sundry in the Bay Area, I will be tabling at San Francisco Zinfest this Saturday and Sunday in Golden Gate Park (8/22-8/23 for those who think in calendar days). It’s in the County Fair building right off 9th, one of my favorite parts of San Francisco, period.

I still haven’t set up online sales, so this is a Very Exclusive Opportunity to pick up my work! Also, I am debuting a new tinyzine. It is my very first tinyzine and I am very excited about it! A preview:

In other news, The Frog Prince received its first official review recently and the “Mischief” show at Studio Gallery SF ended successfully. Thanks to all for showing their support!
